Disclosure

This page exists because you are entitled to know how the author is paid, and what that means for how you should read the book.

The author is a licensed insurance professional

Jose Salloum is a licensed Financial Security Advisor in Quebec, and a licensed life insurance agent in Ontario and British Columbia. In the ordinary course of that work he receives commissions from insurers when a client purchases an insurance policy, including the participating whole life policies the book describes.

Why that matters to you

It means the author is not a neutral party. He has a financial interest in the category of product the book explains. That does not make the explanation wrong, but it does mean you should read it the way you would read anything written by someone with an interest — sceptically, and with a view to verifying it elsewhere. The book is written to make that verification easier, not harder: it states the limits alongside the advantages and devotes a chapter to who the strategy does not suit.

What this website earns

This website sells the book and nothing else. It does not sell insurance, collect leads, book appointments or pass your details to anyone. Buying the book creates no obligation and no professional relationship.

No insurer sponsorship

No insurer has paid for, commissioned, reviewed or approved this website or the book. Where a product feature is described, it is described generically unless a specific insurer is named for a specific reason.

What is not guaranteed

Dividends are not guaranteed. They are declared annually by an insurer’s board of directors based on the performance of the participating account, and scales can fall. Guarantees described are contractual guarantees of the issuing insurer, dependent on its financial strength, and are not government-backed. Policyholder protection is provided within limits by Assuris.

The right way to use this material

Read it. Form your own questions. Take those questions to a licensed Financial Security Advisor of your own choosing, together with an accountant who understands how participating whole life insurance interacts with Canadian tax rules and a legal advisor. Decide for yourself.

The book

Read the whole argument in one place.
